Everclear

Sparkle and Fade: 84

A pretty wicked album once you get use to it. At first reaction you think can this guy actually sing over the guitars? Well after the first track the answer is yes. They have come out with simple, but cool songs to listen to that I am still enjoying. Kind of a grunge band, but I don't know what else you would call it. Maybe unique. Each track is quality and the only one that I don't like is the first one. Anyways check out this band because they promise some good listening for you because they do for me.

So Much for the Afterglow: 79

Everclear has come out with some afterglow after their terrific previous album. I was personally having doubts about whether I would buy their next c.d. because it seemed like they had sapped all of their energy and musical talent into Sparkle and Fade. A lot of bands follow this formula, but what makes Everclear a good band is that they always put a consistent effort into their records. You'll listen to the whole c.d. compared to the usual c.d. where you'll listen to some band's two singles, and leave the rest of the record to rot. They've come out with that same blistering, intense, and in your face attitude as Sparkle and Fade. There are a lot of interesting and original ideas that Everclear has come up with, and I didn't hear one song that was a rip off of a song from the previous album. Everclear, once again have made a strong album that showcases a good lineup and some decent melodies. This c.d. distinguishes Everclear from the one-album bands and puts them in a more professional and higher class. Get this c.d. if you enjoyed Sparkle and Fade because you won't be disappointed.
