John Fogerty

John Fogerty 91

Another badly overlooked album. Other than there being a limited amount of improvisation, this album is very fresh sounding. Rocking All Over The World is a fine toe tapping number that is a sure cure for anyone's ails. Dream Song is a beautiful number that incorporates aspects of country, gospel, and sweet dixieland jazz. As a matter of fact what makes me love this record so much is that it screams with variety. Guitars, pianos, horns, cruise ships, yes John covers the old Huey Smith number.

Centerfield: 79

To the legal problems, it took over ten years to make this record. But the product is still very good as there of the album's songs appeared on the Billboard Charts. John does a good job singing and plays the guitar and arranges this album pretty well. However, John should have hired a drummer because there are several spots where the drums sound a little weak. And the synthesized effects for the most part are somewhat annoying. None the less the album is a winner.

Eye Of The Zombie: 30

I had high hopes for this record as one of the lead songs, Change In The Weather is really excellent. The title track isn't too bad either. Lucky for me that I borrowed this record from my local library because the rest of the album is a disaster. I'm talking nuclear here as John's singing is very painful to listen to. In addition, the songs are loaded with filler material. The opening piece is a tuneless heap of synthesizer garbage. On another piece, John actually seems to be trying to perform a disco number. There is some disco music that is perfectly fine but for John Fogerty to incorporate his rock/country style in a disco/synthesizer setting is extremely unnatural . I haven't tried to listen to this record in years so the grade just avoids the infamous frisbee category. Plus I really like that Change In The Weather tune. However, this album should be avoided at all costs.

Blue Moon Swamp: 86

On of the best albums of 1997. It was again worth the long wait to hear new John Fogerty music. This time John puts out some very natural sounding product. He even turns over the bass and drumming to some quality session players. John gives us many quality songs from start to finish that incorporate the influences of rock, country, blues, and soul. The guitar playing and vocals are excellent and that includes the guest background vocalists. If you want to remember one of the music highlights for 1997, BUY THIS RECORD!
