Hot Tuna

Hot Tuna: 90

This is a classic recording. It's some of the best acoustic guitar driven blues that I've heard. The singing is classic blues style, and the guitars are just great. I love this recording and honestly listen to it about once every two days. It never tires, and I'm continually finding little interesting riffs and such that keep me listening. To explore this album's full potential, the listener must give it a lot of spins. That's the beauty in a good album. For anyone who enjoys blues, or even if you don't, buy this album. You'll understand what some of the oldest music around is about.

Classic Hot Tuna Electric: 80

I personally believe that Hot Tuna sounds the best acousticly driven, but I'm sure others enjoy the electric version. The two discs overlap each other for a few songs, and they went electric because they were opening for Jefferson Airplane, which they just happened to be part of. The only way to hear their music, was to turn on the electric. A different side of Hot Tuna that should be considered. It's a good all around album, and I really see nothing to discourage anyone who likes the blues in an electric version.

Burgers 86

A great sampling of this fine offshoot of the Jefferson Airplane. A good sampling of both the fine electric and especially the acoustic sign of Jorma Kaukonen. There are influences of blues, country, and rock n roll and all performed in a very natural manner. A lot of the hip hop techno artists should listen to this band. Then they would know what real music is all about. (GJW)
