Look Sharp 77
A debut album with some nice bopping rhythms. If these rollicking
rhythms don't get you rolling out on the dance floor or at least in a
good mood you must be taking too many downer pills. For those who
expect some awesome guitar solos, this is not the disc for you. The
vocals here are very good and the songs are pretty neat too. The more
you like heavy rhythms the more you'll like this disc.
I'm The Man 84
The second time around is definitely a charm for this fine New Wave
Artist. Like its predecessor, Look Sharp, rhythms are the course of
the day. And here, there is a little more diversity as there are a
couple of neat ballads and a sort of swingin' number too. But the rock
n roll really rules. Definitely a dose of delectable ditties. Now try
saying those last two lines five times fast.
Jumping Jive 63
After putting out a very non descript Beat Crazy album, Joe Jackson
shifted in musical style ten fold by putting out this disc of 12 Big
Band Jazz Classics from the 1940's and 50's. Definitely a daring move
although the quality is a little off. Where at the beginning its
creative, by the time your midway through side 2 the music sounds all
the same as Mr. Jackson varies his interpretation very little between
songs. Whereas, I respect Mr. Jackson for creativity sake, somehow the
execution is lacking a few touches in the arrangement area.
Night And Day 76
Joe Jackson alters his style a little more from the previous Big Band
style. The result is a nice pop oriented albums with some rhythms that
are catchy without being overwhelming. Piano is the dominant
instrument and there are some nice hooks that are appropriate for both
serious listening and dancing. The lyrics are pretty interesting and
thought provoking. A worthy budget buy investment.(Glenn J. Wiener)
