Talk Is Cheap 70
On this solo record you see what Keith brought to the Rolling Stones.
Stunning guitar riffs was his trade. However, many of the songs sound a
bit incomplete as the hook seems to be weak or missing. The basic
pattern in many of the songs are great for a few bars. However, when
there is no change of pace, even the best riffs sound a bit stale or
even annoying. There are some interesting rhythms as funk, acoustic,
rock, and jazz textures are all explored. Where technically Keith is not
lead singer material, he does add a special emotion that makes him an
interesting listen.
Bad Company 80
The self titled Black Album although simple in arrangements is
definitely pure and honest. Paul Rodgers proves to be the meal ticket
in this fine band with an awesome vocal style that grabs the listener by
the throat. The delivery and stylings are textbook of how a lead singer
should sing. The rest of the band provides ample support. Whereas the
songs (especially the lyrics) are extremely basic, the format is
definitely appropriate for this fine rock n roll band.
Straight Shooter 73
The thing that grabs me the most about this collection is the cover with
the dice and the crap tables. Very appealing to the eyes. The jacket
is pretty creative too as one side shows the rear of the band in
workman's clothes and in the front they are dressed to the nines. As
for the music, the style is the same slam bam thank you mam style as the
first except the last two songs are just a little too slow and are not
suited to the band's talents. The rockers are basically good but for my
money I somehow desire something more. Like some depth.
