Loreena McKennitt

To Drive the Cold Winter Away: 72

This is her first disc which I enjoy, but that's because her voice is so captivating. It doesn't matter what she sings, because she never fails to lure me in. This really is a winter disc, and was recorded in a church which makes it even more interesting. There's some great harp playing, and superb singing as usual. She's empassioned about her music, and this is what's special about her. She pours all of her emotions into her music and this is transformed to the listener. A good starting disc that should be bought after some of her other classic albums.

The Visit: 68

This is a good follow up album for those turned onto her music by The Mask and the Mirror. She has made some great songs on this album which involves her mastering of the melody. It's a great album, but The Mask and the Mirror is better.

The Mask and the Mirror: 87

This is a superb album that is simply a classic in my collection. Her voice is so beautiful and she is so talented musically that good song writing which involve a balance between the two, to create a masterful record. There are just so many strong songs without any weak ones that it makes it hard not to like this album. Each song is distinctly different, and I just think she has made an exceptional album. Her music can be described as having subtle celtic roots involving some skillful harp, fiddle, and percussion. It's not bouncy, but instead soulful, and helps clear the mind. This is a definite must in anyone's record collection, so go rush to the stores and buy it.
