Marcy Playground: 75

I think this band has a lot to offer. Sure, their hit singles are swell, but what's the rest of the c.d. like. Well, it has more folk influence than you would expect. He has a great voice, which is relaxing, and soothing. I think the critics didn't like it because you can find a lot of folk of equal or greater quality, but it's good that some folk is getting out to the mainstream audience. They have a firm grasp on a central melody, but there aren't any underlying melodies. Once you hear it three times, there aren't going to be any interesting surprises. It has good variety and is an overall strong disc. If you're into the softer stuff that isn't cheesy, listen to Marcy Playground.
