Megadeth

Cryptic Warnings

Over the years, Megadeth have certainly stuck to their guns. Unlike their more recognized counterparts, Metallica, Megadeth hasn't sold out to the alt-rock scene. Megadeth aren't wearing girls' make-up, they aren't wearing ladies' coats, they aren't playing sappy ballads, and they aren't annoying their core fan base. Although Megadeth has never seen the vast success that Metallica has, they've kept their fans pleased over the years with tunes that always rock.

Cryptic Writings is trademark Megadeth. It's loaded with fatalistic lyrics, driving beats, and searing guitar solos. The only problem is that the "metal" genre has basically bitten the dust. Even though Cryptic Writings is one of Megadeth's better works, it'll probably fall on deaf ears. Which is too bad. Although Cryptic Writings doesn't break any new ground, it's a good rock album. Songs like "Trust", "The Disintegrators", "Sin", and "She-Wolf" are sure to please any Megadeth fan. The bottom line is: If you dig Megadeth, you'll definitely dig Cryptic Writings. If you're not into Megadeth, you may want to steer clear. - Rob Martin
