The Monterey International Pop Festival June 16-17-18 1967: 90

This is one of the most interesting sets of records that I have listened to in a while. Each performance is so enthralling and fascinating. I can safely say that almost every band had a legendary performance. The sound quality is top notch, and the festival is equally as worthy. I thought that the first c.d. was a waste of time with a lot of lower quality bands crammed into one c.d. However, after this each c.d. turns into almost daily listening if we had that much time. Each band in the last three records are of the highest quality, and deserve to be listened to. It also lets you go back into time and some of the speeches the musicians make really help to sum up what the feelings about life were at the time. I would say that the music easily rivals Woodstock, and that it was a festival of equal greatness to Woodstock as well. Although there wasn't as many people, I think what really matters is the music. I think more people should listen to the music of this underrated classic festival. Anyone who's a Jimi Hendrix fan needs to listen to his performance, because this is what made Jimi Hendrix as we know him. I'll list the bands that had terrific music that put in a stellar performance out rivaling many of the bootlegs circulating today: Volume 2: The Butterfield Blues Band, The Steve Miller Band, The Electric Flag, Hug Masekela, The Byrds, Ravi Shankar, and The Blues Project. Volume 3:Jefferson Airplane, Booker T. & The MG's, Otis Redding J, and the Who. Volume 4:The Jimi Hendrix Experience J, The Mamas & The Papas, and Scott McKenzie.
