Otis Redding

Remember Me: 90

This is a disc with some unreleased tracks that are just great. He's a classic and everyone should have at least one of his records. He's one of the best singers ever, and captivated both black and white audiences which is very difficult for bands. He is a mix between soul and rock, and he's the master of sound. His music is extremely unique, distinct, and uplifting. It gets me into a good mood, and not many artists can transform my mood so quickly. Go buy his records, because he's definetly worthy of everyone's ears. If you don't like Redding, then I don't see how you like people singing. He's an essential.

The Ultimate Otis Redding: 60

This has a bunch of great songs because it's a greatest hits disc, but I think that it lacks the spark, and energy that differentiates Redding from other artists. I don't think it's worth your money because it's important to catch him at his moment. At this time, his music becomes special. I don't think this is an empassioned work of art, so I wouldn't recommend it. More the singles format than anything. When I listen to Redding, I like his raw ersions which ultimately are no comparison.
