Rusted Root

I saw this band in the Santana concert. At first it amazed me that so many people would find this band so entralling, but I'm beginning to understand. It fascinates me that this band has been so successful with the teenage and in general young audience. In a world where music is most commenly used to express hate, this is a refreshing change. They are a percussion driven, acoustic band with an African backbeat. Their music is simple, soul searching, and generally repetative. It touches the listener's soul and that's the most important part of a live band. Instead of just going on about how great they are, I'm going to tell you that I personally wouldn't buy their c.d. This is because the woman who back up sings makes the whole band's vocals sound weak. Their songs are simplistic and although well written, repetative. It makes for an effective theraphy every once in a while, but the lack in variety involving each song itself comes into question. My favorite part is the percussion which is executed at a high skill level, and certainly exceptional drumming skills. I'm happy for all those granolas who listen to Rusted Root because I think they are doing something for the better of the music world.
