Steve Winwood

Arc Of A Diver: 50

He’s made some good music, but this is the stuff that my mom listens to. Light, poppy, and after a while annoying organ. I don’t know what it is with this organ, but it just pisses me off with his voice. I’m sure that many people think his music is the best, but it’s not for me. This only has seven tracks on it so it’s kind of a rip off.

I usually hate this guy with a passion. For me, he defines music gone past, and the kind of loser that moms listen to. I can honestly say that I hate his music, but I think he's finally come out with something that people beside moms can listen to. It's called Junction 7.

Roll With It 52

Just another ordinary record from this otherwise talented singer. This album contains way too many keyboard enhanced programming devices. On a few songs its OK but to hear this throughout an entire album is somewhat annoying. There are some interesting rhythms particularly on Hearts On Fire, Don't You Know What The Night Can Do, and Put On Your Dancing Shoes. The use of the horns and vocals add some nice support. However, the overall weak song-writing and the overall unnatural song makes this a mediocre record.

Junction 7: 82

This is one of the few exceptions where bouncy keyboard backgrounds have been used effectively. It's right on the border, but he's come out with something bold and creative. The singing is top class, with some soaring melodies that do a great job. I'm usually not a big fan of his, but this is great music for celebration, or for when you're in a good mood. The background can sometimes become annoying, but for the most part it's a positive contributor which aids in showcasing Winwood's voice. It's nice to see an older artist thinking new. This would probaly be considered easy listening, but the important thing is that he does it well. You won't be dissappointed with this album.

Back In The High Life 71

If it wasn't for the overabundance of the synthesizer this album would really hold up well. However, the song-writing of Mr. Windwood can not be diminished. There are some awesome rhythms accentuated by some nice percussion touches. The vocal harmonies between Steve and the supporting musicians are enjoyable to listen to. I just do not enjoy listening to synthesizers as the lead instrument over the course of an entire album. But as his solo work goes, this is his most consistent work.
