Crucify: 72
This is a great introduction to Tori Amos. Included are some stirring tracks that make the listener feel her emotional strain. She does a very interesting take on Angie by the Rolling Stones and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. Her backup is simply a piano, as the main focus is her voice. It's beautiful artistic, and fascinating. It did a lot for me musically, and it will with you too.
From the Choirgirl Hotel: 80
This disc is experimental and original, as she uses her
talented voice to the fullest. The backup is interesting with
some heavy droning back beats, followed by creepy piano
pieces. Her music is often haunting, and dark. I'm really
enjoying women who don't buy into the pop scene. She's not as
creepy as Portishead, but she distinctly bridges beautiful
melodies with emotions such as anger and frustration. This
is a strong c.d. which helps the woman singers of the 90s
gain some credibility. Definitely an essential listen for
anyone remotely interested in the female side of music.
