On The Border 95
Everyone hails Hotel California as the landmark album for this fine
American group. But this disc song for song really offers a balanced
collection that can appeal to a wide audience. Ballads, rockers,
country, this record has it all. Well written songs, beautiful
harmonies, superb guitar licks(especially on James Dean and Good Day In
Hell), and even some good drumming by Don Henley. Best Of My Love is
probably the most commercially recognizable song on this collection but
in my opinion.........its the weakest number of the lot. And its not a
bad tune by any means. Anyway if you like the Eagles even a little, BUY
THIS RECORD!
Eagles-One Of These Nights 83
A fine record in its own right. The song-writing quality is a little
bit off from the previous effort but in my mind its very hard to sustain
such success over two consecutive albums. The hit songs are good but a
little bit too commercial(One Of These Nights, Take It To The Limit) and
have too long a fade out. Otherwise this is record is very worthwhile.
I will add Hotel California and Long Run at another time as I have to go
now. They are both good albums but a bit overly commercial. That is
the only minor problem I have with the Eagles. A great band like Little
Feat creates great music without trying to
make it in the format of a hit single. And boy does creativity show in
Little Feat's music.
