Sweet Baby James 87
Probably this performers best non-compilation work. The style is a bit
constant but oh what beautiful songs. Fire And Rain, Steamroller,
Country Road, Blossom, Sweet Baby James, and more. There is enough
diversity here as James explores the blues a bit in addition to his
acoustic style. The key is that the sound quality is very natural
sounding and vocals are clear and pleasant. If you want to get to know
James Taylor beyond his greatest hits compilation, start here.
Hourglass 66
This recent release features more tender ballads from this fine
signer/songwriter. However, the overall sound quality is way too
constant and a little bit unnatural especially as compared to Sweet Baby
James. The mix between the keyboard, vocals, and other instruments
sounds a bit repetive over the course of a thirteen song collection.
There are a few interesting rhythms here and there and occasional James'
style shows some bounce. However, unless you are a big fan, this album
is only a now and then listen.
