She's an artist that I have really come to respect because of her disregard for the big business of the music world. She's cool, but I think that the radio kills her reputation. She has some classic songs that are great to hear every once in a while, but two or three times a day just ruins it for me. She's making the music that she wants to and I think that's really cool. She has such a distinct talent and style that makes you want to come back for more.
Tuesday Night Music Club 78
A nice debut by this stylish singer with a pretty face to boot. A bit
too much on the easy listening side. But sometimes easy can be a good
thing. There are some moments when the mood becomes more upbeat with
the laid back rockers Can't Cry Anymore and All I Want To Do as well
as the funky Solidify, probably the best song on the album. Anyway
all of the lyrics touch on real life human situations which make it
easy for the general public to identify with.
Sheryl Crow 87
Sheryl Crow gives us more good quality music with this self titled
follow up to Tuesday Night Music Club. Very similar to the debut only
with a slightly heavier sound and more of the songs reflect a bitter
tone. I guess the rough and tumble world of the music business
effected Sheryl as evidenced by the lyrics on such songs as Ordinary
Morning, If It Makes You Happy, Home, and The Book. Just look at the
picture on this record and compare it to the debut and you'll see that
much of the innocence of this midwestern beauty has gone away.
Anyway, the bottom line here is the music and there are many excellent
songs written from the heart and to me that is what makes a winning
recording.
